Mrs. Korrow's Fourth Grade Class is "Classroom of the Week"

Welcome to the Wonderful World of Room 19!!

Here in Mrs. Korrow’s class we learn by reading, doing projects, and laughing (a lot), and we love every minute of it. Our days go by so fast that the most frequently asked question is, “We’re going home already? We just got here!” Please enjoy reading about what we have been so busy doing and view our pictures.

All of our students are amazing writers. Each week, two students are selected to be “I’m The Author,” and they create stories of their own, illustrate them, and as they are published, they share their books with the class. We can’t wait to hear the many different genres that the children are writing. It is very exciting!!

We just returned from Cow Neck Peninsula Historical Museum in Port Washington for a class trip. Our class took part in many fun and educational activities surrounding Colonial America while visiting the Sands Willets House from the 1700’s. We listened to colonial music, played colonial games, made our own ink to write with quill pens, and best of all, we baked delicious corn bread and apple pies in old fashioned kitchens in the house. It was so exciting to find out that George Washington held a special meeting in this house after the American Revolution to thank all of the spies that helped in the war. We had a terrific trip as well as learned many interesting facts.

Science is one of our favorite subjects, as we do many interesting and fun experiments in the classroom and the science lab. We just completed our Work and Energy unit. In the classroom, we designed and built simple machines, and one main requirement was that they had to work! Each group presented and demonstrated their simple machines with the class, and we created a simple machine book to remember this great project.

We are now starting our plant unit, and cannot wait to dissect flowers next week in the classroom so we can see first hand the different parts of the plant and their functions.

Our class just completed the book Maniac Magee by Jerry Spinelli, and then we watched the movie. We could not believe how different the movie was from the book, but we really enjoyed both equally, even though the book was much more detailed. Mrs. Korrow is now reading "Walk Two Moons" by Sharon Creech, to our class. Every day, our class goes on an adventure with Sal and Phoebe as Sal describes her journey from Ohio to Idaho.

As you can see, we are very busy in fourth grade, learning, laughing, and loving every minute of it. Thank you for visiting our class.
