Mrs. Piergallini and Ms. Hofmann's First Grade Class is
"Classroom
of the Week"
![]() |
First
grade is fantastically fun!! We are having a blast exploring our
world through reading, writing,
math, science, and social studies activities. The first few months
of school have just flown by, and we are extremely excited to share
some of our learning experiences so far this year. Our weekly Math
Counting Carnival has quickly become a class favorite. Each week,
we practice our addition and subtraction facts through entertaining
carnival
centers. Who knew we needed so much math in order to play games!
We are also thrilled by our performance in our Thanksgiving Play.
It required
much practice both at home and in school, but we pulled out a showstopper!
After putting on our Thanksgiving Play, we were able to continue
our learning in the classroom by making Oreo turkeys and Pilgrim
spoon
puppets. In addition to Thanksgiving, we are taking great pleasure
in celebrating many other holidays as part of our social studies
curriculum, such as Columbus Day and Halloween. Check out our re-creation
of Columbus’s
boats below. This past week was also very thrilling for us, as we
received mail from our loved ones in Literacy Lab to support our
FUNctional
Writing Unit. It was such a joy to experience first-hand that both
receiving and writing letters makes us feel good. Recently, we went
on a field trip to the BOCES Outdoor Education Center. Some of our
field trip highlights included making apple cider and bird feeders.
We even got a chance to use Colonial tools and paint our faces like
Native Americans of the past. Whether we are getting our hands dirty
with oobleck, creating a foaming monster, making Play-Doh, imagining
our very own Not-A-Box, or shopping in our school store, one thing
is for certain - First grade is FANTASTICALLY FUN!! |
