It
is a great honor for me to be given the opportunity to share
in the success of this incredible
school and become a part of this wonderful learning community as
the new principal of Cantiague Elementary School. It is a privilege
to be your principal for so many different reasons!
I started my career teaching fourth and fifth grades in the New York
City Public School system. I worked in New York City for three
years and then moved to
Hewlett Elementary, where I taught fifth grade for five years. My eight years
of teaching shaped me as an educator and a person. After
my son was born in 2004, I decided it was time to pursue a career change.
I believed that becoming an administrator would enable me to
impact a community
on a more global level and ensure that every child would learn. During my
time as principal at the Clear Stream Avenue Elementary School in Valley
Stream, my dreams became a reality and my passion for instructional
leadership was ignited. I will
bring that passion, knowledge and enthusiasm
to my new position as principal of the Cantiague Elementary School.
At Cantiague Elementary School we hold a common belief that our students
will achieve because as a community, we have high expectations for all, regardless
of individual differences, abilities or interests. Our children will be inspired
by teachers who are committed to making a difference, encouraged by parents
who provide support, and empowered for continued growth by a community working
together to ensure that every child realizes goals and dreams.
Cantiague Elementary School is an amazing place to work and to attend school.
From the time students enter the building early in the morning until dismissal,
passion for education and dedication to student learning and achievement
will be evident in every room. Faculty, staff and students will work together,
learn together
and grow together. Not only will we work towards fostering a love
for learning, but we will also nurture citizens who respect and appreciate
the
rules that
support them and who take pride in their surroundings. The students of Cantiague
Elementary will flourish because they are positive, responsible and respectful
individuals, and these basic values will lead us all to success!
The students at Cantiague Elementary also learn to accept all individuals
and respect differences. Students are prepared for the differences they will
encounter
in the “real world” and have learned to cooperate and problem solve
together because they understand that everyone’s dreams, goals and
beliefs matter. As the great Langston Hughes wrote in his poem,
Youth
We have tomorrow
Bright before us
Like a flame.
Again,
it is with great pride that I share this first principal’s
message with you for the 2008-09 school year. I look forward
to sharing many more messages for years to come!
Sincerely,
Antony Sinanis
Principal
