Video/Television
Production I, II
This
course teaches the basics of electronic news gathering (ENG)
and
television production. Students will be part of the JET-TV (Jericho
Educational Television) team as reporters, camera operators,
and
editors. Students will learn
the techniques of directing, scripting, interviewing,
advanced editing, and audio mixing. "Everybody is a star
at JET-TV", either in front or behind the camera. Many
interdisciplinary projects and opportunities are also available.
Student work will
be entered in various local and national competitions. Guest
speakers and related field trips are planned to give students
an opportunity
to experience "real world" productions.
Grades 9-12 - 1/2 credit per semester - Video I is a prerequisite
for Video II

TV
Studio Production I
Students
enrolled in this course will learn how to produce the morning
announcements and other short features that may be shown throughout
the school and community. They will be involved in the development
of all components of these productions including the use of digital
ENG (electronic news gathering), as well as script writing, interviewing,
reporting, directing, editing, and occasional videotaping of extracurricular
or current events. This course is intended to augment the skills
the students learned in Video Production I and II, and provide
them with advanced training that may lead to university study
and careers in broadcasting.

Introduction
to Engineering Design (IED)
This is an engineering foundation course that
teaches problem-solving skills using a design development process.
Models of product solutions are created, analyzed and communicated
using sophisticated solid modeling computer software.
This course will be the first part of a Project Lead the Way
sequence in the high school. Project Lead the Way is a nationwide
multi-year program which, when combined with traditional secondary
school mathematics and science courses, introduces students to
the scope, rigor and discipline of engineering prior to entering
college.
Grades

Full year course
Upon
successful completion, students can earn credit from Rochester
Institute of Technology.

Civil
Engineering/Architechture (CEA)
This
is the second course in the Jericho High School Project Lead
the Way sequence. It emphasizes the interrelationship
and dependence of both civil engineering and architecture on
each other. This is accomplished through a comprehensive study
of the roles of civil engineers and architects in: project and
site planning, building design, documentation and presentation.
Students will also be involved in the production of long and
short term projects utilizing sophisticated computer software
such as Autodesk Revit and Inventor Professional.
Grades 10 or 11
1 Credit
Prerequisite: Introduction to Engineering Design; Knowledge of
basic Algebra, Geometry and Trigonometry is strongly recommended.
