On February 1, union protesters, holding signs to inform the public about the
school’s decision to hire a non-union workforce, demonstrated outside
the school grounds with an inflatable eighteen-foot-tall rat.
According to Assistant Superintendent of Business Affairs Victor Manuel, by law,
he had to accept the lowest bid from a survey of eight bidders for
the job, regardless of union membership. That company was De Rosa
Construction, Inc.

school seemed like the perfect time to get away, 65% of students
stayed home. A few days before students were let out, we
surveyed and talked to many of them, and have gathered all
you need to know about their vacations.

Ending Piracy through Censorship and What This Means for Jericho High School
Students
By Amy Xu
“The internet will fail,” claimed a Newsweek column dating back to 1995. Fifteen
some years later, it is not hard to see why this statement
may be one of history’s more faulty forecasts. It is a quote
that comes up when you search “failed predictions” on Google.
It appears when you click though the online “Bad Opinion Generator,”
and it makes its way around the internet via chain e-mails.
Ironically enough, even Newsday’s own social media director
whose responsibilities include maintaining the publication’s
Tumblr, Twitter, and Facebook pages has commented on the piece.

Shimmer, silk, and sparkle
are captivating the runways this spring. The glitz and glamour
of the deco period, otherwise known as the 1920s, have been reborn.
The 1920s were a time of reform and a time of change. Morals were
broken, stereotypes were ignored, and the true modern woman emerged.
These women known as “flappers” flaunted their free spirits and
their fashionable tastes. This spring, echoes of this period’s
unique style are emerging. From Ralph Lauren to Marchesa, these
designs from New York’s Fashion Week are captivating the true “flapper”
style.

may have thought they would never hear of them again, but with
their new release, the Scorpions are proving that they have what
it takes to have a successful comeback album.
