Iceberg by Clive Cussler, reviewed by Shawn S.

In one of his many novels, Clive Cussler tells an unbelievable story about a man who is out to stop an evil scheme that threatens the world and world leaders. Iceberg is an extremely well-written story and catches your attention from the start. We meet Major Dirk Pitt, an oceanographer who is as brave as a lion that goes to major lengths to complete his goal.

A coastguard helicopter was on its daily inspection searching for any unwanted activity or excessive melting of the icebergs of Iceland. Expecting that everything was okay like it always was, the coastguards on the helicopter discover an unbelievable site. They discover a very large ship frozen within an iceberg. A man on the helicopter marked the iceberg with red dye so they could come back later to inspect it because they were running out of fuel. They called Major Dirk Pitt, a worldwide know oceanographer, along with Dr. Hunnewell, a worldwide known scientist to check out the ship. They found the ship, but the red dye was chiseled off! Somebody obviously doesn’t want them discovering anything. Within the ship are the burned remains of the crew. But a probe that was meant to be aboard this ship was missing and this probe was going to change the world for the good. Pitt is targeted for death and tries to stop a secret plot that threatens the world before it's too late.

The novel offers the reader so much excitement about a man trying to stop an evil scheme. This novel shows you to never give up and try as hard as you can at anything you do in life. Always take that extra step because with one more step, you are another foot towards your goal. The author uses similes throughout this novel that were absolutely unbelievable and make you think a lot. It was a pleasure to read such a smooth and well-written novel. This novel makes you want to try harder at everything you do because it shows you that the harder you try, the more you will achieve.

There really aren’t any negatives about this novel except that the author would bring something up and then stop talking about it for a little while. He then brings it up again in a later chapter. Even though this builds the suspense of something, the reader wants to know answers right away. I enjoy this type of writing but many readers may find it a bit annoying because they have to keep reading to find something out about something that happed earlier.

Overall, this book deserves five stars. Iceberg is simply a novel that pulls the reader into the story and never lets you stop reading. It teaches you to never give up and that greed is a crime. Even though you think you may be doing something good, think about it twice and think about who might be getting hurt if you fulfill your actions. Major Dirk Pitt makes you smile and laugh. Readers will look at adventure novels in a very different way after reading this one.
