The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, reviewed by Justin G.

In the novel, S.E. Hinton writes about a sixteen year old boy living his life. The Outsiders talks about the people and environment around Pony. Overall, it is a good depiction of teenage gangs.

In the novel, there are two gangs called the Greasers and Socs. These groups don’t like each other. Pony, the brother of Darry, gets jumped by the gang called the Socs when walking home from the movies. The Greasers soon became mad and want a rumble with the Socs. During this time both gangs want to kill each other. By the end many friends die.

Some of the positive things the author did were talking about the fights. S.E. Hinton was very descriptive when there were fights. The author writes about the life at that time. She shows vividly about the life at that time, and how ids had to live.

The negative ideas would be that the novel is too violent. Kids that are younger than I would get the wrong idea for the book. Also the setting should be in this time period because this kind of life still happens.

Overall, the book deserves three stars. The Outsiders is a great book for teens and adults because it discusses the hard times for the kids. Younger kids should not read this because they would not appreciate the true meaning of the novel.
