The Supernaturalist by Eoin Colfer, reviewed by Corey H.

Eoin Colfer, the writer of the Artemis Fowl series, wrote an adventurous story, The Supernaturalist, about a no-sponsor named Cosmo Hill and his adventures with a group called The Supernaturalists. At the start of this book Cosmo is in an orphanage called Clarissa Frayne. This book teaches the reader about friendship and staying together in a group.

In the future, a boy named Cosmo Hill was abandoned by his parents when he was little. Since he was abandoned he was sent to the Clarissa Frayne institute for parentally challenged boys. At Clarissa Frayne, the boys are put to work by the state to test highly dangerous products. The institute does not know the side effects of the products, so the kids could have burns, bruises and could even be dead at the end of the day. Everyday the same things happen and Cosmo realizes that it is killing him. He figures out that he must escape to save his own life. Finally, a moment comes were Cosmo can escape. With the help of The Supernaturalists, Cosmo can escape from the orphanage that was killing him. Both Cosmo and The Supernaturalists have the same special ability that helps them see the parasites that sucking the life out of people. The Supernaturalists soon find out a terrible secret that disproves everything that they believe in and must find out what went wrong.

Eoin Colfer did many things well in this book. He made the characters very interesting and gave them an amazing back story that will intrigue all readers. He also describes the future in a very interesting way, when a satellite controls everything. This book combines adventure with science fiction keeping the reader on the edge of their seat. The big twist at the end of the book makes you beg for Colfer to write a sequel.

In this book it takes a little while to actually know what happened in The Supernaturalists' past that made them the way they are. Stefan, the leader of The Supernaturalists tells his back story at the end of the book. Readers can get frustrated with this because he is a very important character.

Overall, this book deserves four stars. The Supernaturalist is an amazing action-packed book that will fascinate you from start to finish. The reader will want to burn the midnight oil to finish this book. This book teaches the reader not to judge a book by its cover, and to think things through before you act.
