Leandra’s Law | Falling Stars: Margaux Hemingway | Thank You for Smoking |
|
In the movie Thank You for Smoking, the main character, Nick Naylor, is the Vice President and chief spokesperson for the Academy of Tobacco Studies where they are doing studies to see if lung cancer is linked to smoking. However, they never find any solid information that supports that “theory”, which isn’t surprising because the program is supported by tobacco companies. Throughout the movie, Nick tries to connect more with his son, Joey, who accompanies Nick on one of his trips. Later on, Nick is threatened and kidnapped by those that are against what he does to “pay his mortgage”. His kidnappers attempt to give him nicotine poisoning by placing multiple nicotine patches on his body. However, because of his smoking habits, he is able to survive this fiasco on the condition that he doesn’t smoke again. Ultimately, Nick doesn’t work with the tobacco industry anymore and instead focuses on his talent to spin the truth and opens his own successful negotiations firm. |

How many alcohol related deaths a year? 100,000? That's, what, 270 a day? Tragedy. How many firearms related deaths a year? 11,000? That comes out to a measly 30 a day! -Nick Naylor |
