Some
of our events include:
-
Homecoming
Weekend our club sells bead bracelets to raise money for research,
extended care and programs for the school community.
-
Throughout
the school year we have bake sales and candy/lollipop sales to raise
funds for research, extended care and programs for the school community
-
Guest
Speaker - Tom Donahue,
the founder of the program whospositive.org,
is a man living with AIDS who spoke to the entire HS
community. We also had Julie
Canzoneri and Steven Yurcik speak in previous years.
- Health and Safety
Fair at
the elementary schools give us a chance to talk to the younger
students about health, hygiene, and being
safe.
-
BEATS
Conference - held at Hofstra University provides a chance for
our club to network with other AIDS clubs
in the area to share ideas, information, projects, events, and
fundraising ideas. Also, there are other clubs and groups that
perform skits
to showcase their specialty and what they can offer as guest speakers
or as a school assembly.
-
Food
Drive - we gather food, non-perishable food items, baby items, toiletries,
etc. for the Long Island Association for AIDS Care (LIAAC)
to deliver through their Food for Life Program, which delivers meal
and/or pantry bags to persons with HIV and AIDS here on Long Island.
-
Battle
of the Bands - this is our biggest fundraiser of the year! Student
bands compete for prizes and the audience does the voting! There
is also a faculty band that performs as well. The money raised
from
the show go to One
Heartland. One Heartland is a place for
HIV+ children to have a safe and happy
summer.
