This year Mrs. Minikel, the librarian, and Ms Diehl and Ms Schisgall, sixth grade science teachers, participated in the Videoconferencing Integration Project sponsored by BOCES Distance Education Services and the NYIT Educational Enterprise Zone Project VIEW. At this meeting Susan Neale from BOCES shared basic information on how to create a successful videoconferencing experience for students. As participants of this grant, they were provided with three sessions of videoconferencing. This opportunity led them to schedule six sixth grade science classes into a videoconference called Birds of a Feather, with the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center on May 18 and 19, 2005. Students had the opportunity to learn about bird adaptations.

Videoconferencing Resources Birds of a Feather (a videoconference from the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center,1 hour program, Grades K-7, discusses what can be learned from birds by their feathers). Ms Diehl, Ms Schisgall, and Mrs.Minikel created an Animal Adaptations lesson to prepare students for the Birds of a Feather videoconference. There is also a Power Point about Bird Beaks and library information skills lessons to assist students with their research. Ms Diehl also participated in a Wetlands videoconference with ten other schools across the nation.
